Mark Steyn to speak in London, Ontario

Just like March of earlier this year, a Canadian university campus is getting shaken up by a truly conservative message being shared with its students. American author, columnist and radio broadcaster Mark Steyn will be delivering an iconic speech at the University of Western Ontario. His speech is entitled, Head For The Hills: Why Everything In Your World Is Doomed, and it’s bound to be awesome.

The same people who brought you Coulter in Canada last year are at it again. StrictlyRight.com and Strictly Right Radio is proud to be bringing bestselling author and award-winning radio host Mark Steyn to shake things up at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.

On November 1st, 2010, Mark Steyn will be delivering a speech on political correctness, free speech and Islam in the West. Mark’s speech will be entitled “Head For The Hills: Why Everything In Your World Is Doomed.” Following his speech, Mark will be answering questions in a Q&A period, then signing copies of his two most recent books.

"I don't care if it's true; it's racist!"

A while back, renowned psychology professor Philippe Rushton of the University of Western Ontario was criticized within the academic community for publishing a work culminating a lot of the research he’d been doing for years. Essentially, he proved that white people are smarter than black people; and Asians are smarter than white people. His research accurately took into consideration things like test scores, aptitude tests, and other assessments, it also looked at measurable qualities like brain size, gestation period, maturity rate, etc.

That didn’t matter though! The university attempted to get rid of him, the premier of the province of Ontario attempted to have him discredited. All this happening until other scientists finally had the balls to step up and say, “but he’s right.”

Now, it looks like a daring individual in government of Canada decided to challenge political correctness and use, well, facts.

Prosaically titled “Social and Economic Outcomes of Second Generation Youth,” the four-page memo showed little regard for the political correctness typical of government correspondence. “Chinese and South Asians are the most likely to have university degrees or higher, and to be employed in high-skilled occupations,” observed the summary, which was prepared by departmental bureaucrats and released recently through access to information. Second-generation youth of Caribbean and Latin American origin don’t fare so well, the memo went on; they tend to obtain lower levels of education than native-born Canadian kids and wind up in less skilled jobs.

Of course, remember that even when something is scientifically proven, it’s racist. Thank you.

A lost battle may help us win the war

Ann Coulter’s second stop on her cross-Canadian tour was canceled in an eleventh-hour decision by local police. After a rousing speech to a cheering crowd of 800 in London yesterday, Ann was expected to address the University of Ottawa tonight, but ended up getting canceled on account of a directive from the Ottawa police, stating that neither Ann nor event attendees would be safe if this event proceeded. Ezra Levant gave a sincere speech to a supportive, but disappointed crowd — the ones who had arrived at the event early enough to be seated.

University Vice-President and Provost Francois Houle set Ann up for failure when he emailed her last week threatening criminal charges unless she “restrains” herself. And, as Ann herself predicted…that act exposed her to more hatred and violence than anything else in Canada.

The whole point of free speech is that those you disagree with have a platform to speak their minds, and you as a citizen have a right to challenge them. That freedom to challenge ends when violence is thrown into the mix. Ironically, these pathetic leftists claim that Ann Coulter should have been denied the right to speak because she promotes violence. However, there were zero injuries at her presentation in London, and the entire reason her Ottawa appearance was cancelled was because of the violence from the left. Hmm, I’m sensing a bit of hypocrisy here. Anyone else?

This is a lost battle for free speech, and a sad day to be a Canadian. However, to anyone who supported the censorship of Ann Coulter: recognize that the world’s eyes are on Canada right now. And they hate you. This small lost battle may help us win the war now that people know how bad it is. This goes beyond a leftist media bias and shows the extreme of political correctness. Unfortunately, the “necessity” of political correctness has indeed gotten extreme itself.

Pray for Canada tonight, we need it.

Debunking Randy Richmond

The London Free Press was quick to put up an article about the Ann Coulter lecture in London earlier this evening. As always, Randy Richmond proves himself to be a leftist fool incapable of stringing a rational/coherent sentence together not always embrace the journalistic technique known as “using facts.” Interestingly enough, Randy didn’t register for the event, but rather decided that he would attend, and then threatened to not write about the story if we didn’t let him in. I accepted his ultimatum and walked away without putting him on the guest list…but unfortunately he ended up in the room anyway (in other news, a campus security guard loses their job.)

I will re-print his entire article in full, inserting my own observations about his idiocy in between paragraphs. Fair? Thought so.

A 17-year-old Muslim student sparked the testiest exchange and the loudest cheers and jeers at a speech by controversial U.S. conservative Ann Coulter at the University of Western Ontario Monday.

Actually, this girl was one of over a dozen people to ask Ann a question, and she certainly wasn’t the highlight of the evening.

After a wide-ranging speech attacking gay rights activists, the mainstream media and the Barack Obama administration, Coulter took questions from an audience clearly divided in its support for her style of attack conservatism.

She mentioned that gay men can’t get married or throw a baseball without looking like a girl — not seeing the “attacks.” Also, the audience wasn’t that clearly divided as the room was roaring with applause for the majority of the speech. And, she had a standing ovation from a clear majority of attendees. Interestingly, I’m not too sure how Randy from his lovely seat in the corner would come to the socio-political conclusion that “attack conservatism” isn’t popular in a room of her fans.

Fatima Al-Dhaher, a political science student from London, rose and spoke about comments Coulter made after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The firebrand Republican had suggested Muslim countries be invaded, their leaders killed and all Muslims converted to Christianity. She later suggested Muslims denied air travel take “flying carpets” instead.

I don’t think Ann would appreciate being called a “Republican.” (Ugh, it pains me to even say that.) In fact, she did a lot of bashing of the Republican Party (*cough* John McCain *cough*.)

“As a 17-year-old student of this university, Muslim, should I be converted to Christianity? Second of all, since I don’t have a magic carpet, what other modes do you suggest,” Al-Dhaher said to loud and sustained applause.

Firstly…17? Seriously, don’t Universities run daycares nowadays. In any case, if Fatima were to be converted to Christianity, I imagine she would be slightly less obnoxious and subsequently more capable of saying something insightful (don’t worry Fatima, you’ll mature as you go through unive…actually, never mind.)

“I thought it was just American public schools that produced ignorant people,” Coulter replied, prompting her own round of applause.

Coulter then noted many Japanese were converted to Christianity after the Second World War and “we haven’t heard a peep out of them.”

To shouts of “Answer the question,” Coulter finally replied, “What mode of transportation? Take a camel.”

Best line of the evening in my opinion. Unfortunately the London Free Press was unable to confirm whether or not this girl was able to take her camel home, or whether or not she checked into airport security before she was placed on the ‘DO NOT FLY’ list.

“Are you going to convert her now?” another student shouted out.

“No, there are some people I just as soon not convert,” Coulter retorted. Al-Dhaher, who left the session soon after, said she came to the speech because it’s important to hear all sides of the political spectrum.

But Coulter disappointed.

“She just spewed all this nonsense, it was a comedic act.”

I definitely found it to be a comedic act. It was some of the funniest political satire I’ve seen in a while. To put this into perspective, the girl arrived and sat at the very back, and left seconds after Ann answered her question. Therefore, I find it quite hard to believe that this girl (who was reading her question from a cue-card) came to hear varying viewpoints as opposed to just to ask that question and fail in an attempt of embarrassing Ann.

Coulter did not disappoint her many fans in the crowd of 800 with either her politics or her humour. Her 45-minute speech was loosely focused on political correctness, which allowed her to attack liberals of all stripes.

It was actually an hour and 15 minutes, Randy. But, I suppose that’s the least of the things you got wrong here.

Liberals constantly complain their rights are being attacked in the same way blacks’ rights once were, she said.

“In America everybody wants to be black. The feminists want to be black, the illegal aliens want to be black, the gays want to be black,” she said.

Yet none of the complainers have anything serious to complain about, Coulter said.

“There are only two things gay men can’t do. Number one, get married to each other. Number two, throw a baseball without looking like a girl.”

Gold star Randy, you managed to write more than two words without misquoting somebody.

But her jokes often had a serious point as well. “Every Democrat in the past several election cycles that has run for president has sworn to attack gay marriage, but only Republicans get attacked for gay marriage.”

Backed by the mainstream media, liberals have turned political correctness into a weapon that tries to silence people with opposing views, Coulter said.

Liberal pundits suggest Obama’s race helped him win the election, but conservatives cannot do the same, she said.

Feminists blame the Conservatives for an array of ills, but turned suddenly silent when former U.S. president Bill Clinton had sex with an intern, she said.

“Political correctness has nothing to do with offending people or not offending people. It is purely about power,” she said.

I find it interesting that he lists five “quotes” here from Ann, but only cites two of them as things she’s actually said. Now, she implied those things throughout her speech, but they were for illustrative purposes, not the “point” of her speech.

On the upside, at least we didn’t expect anything better than a man who launched a personal campaign against Kathy Shaidle last year.

Ann Coulter at UWO

The day started well – Andrew and I were informed that our presence outside of the auditorium was forbidden, as the very sight of us would “incite a riot.” However, to give credit where it is due, the event went very smoothly, and a great deal of thanks is owed to the great security team and (mostly) respectful students.

Here are some pictures, I will try to get the video as soon as possible:

The Crowd of 800+

Ezra Levant gave a barn-burner of an introduction. He’s also Ann’s new lawyer in the Human Rights Tribunal case she’s going to bring up!

Ann Coulter – amazing. Stay tuned for her next interview on Strictly Right Radio!

London's Feminazi: The case against Megan Walker

Every city has a select few who try and get into the media at all costs. Generally, they do this by actually doing stuff that may be newsworthy. Feminazis have their own way of doing things however, which brings us to Megan Walker, executive director of the London Abused Women’s Centre in London, Ontario. (Frequent readers of this blog will note that London, Ontario is the first stop of Ann Coulter’s cross-Canada tour commencing on Monday.) Instead of actually doing stuff, Megan Walker takes it upon herself to merely send out mundane press releases about how much she disapproves of what everyone else is doing. Sadly, local leftists eat that up.

For some reason, feminists have a bit of a problem with Ann Coulter. They advocate for girls to spread their legs and dress like prostitutes (and murder their baby if they get knocked up,) yet don’t agree with an empowered, successful, opinionated women writing about Christian values.

From London’s AM 980:

Her appearance has angered many in the community including director of the London Abused Women’s Centre, Megan Walker.  She says Coulter is a divisive figure with dangerous opinions.

“I don’t object to anybody who is a controversial figure. I think controversy is really great because it brings forward a lot of ideas and dialogue. What concerns me about Ann Coulter is she uses her platform to spew hatred and often times is very discriminatory towards minority groups.” she said.

Kudos to Walker: she managed to make a statement and backtrack on it in only two sentences! (She also managed to misquote Ann Coulter twice in one sentence.) I fully believe in equal rights for people regardless of gender, race, or anything else outside of one’s control. However, Megan Walker comes from the “castrate all men and shove a vacuum in their hand” variety of activists who keep a rolodex of self-loathing self-victimizing statements on hand to attempt to claim immunity from criticism due to their status. Fortunately, I’m just heartless enough to ignore the laying of the victim card. This is the woman who accused me of supporting violence against women to the London Free Press because I was speaking on a holiday that happened to occur on the same day as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (also filed under “Useless Non-Holidays.”)

So, Megan just secured her position among the leftists who agree with free speech…so long as you agree with them.

For further amusement, read Kathy’s take on the matter.
