Tom DeLay, the former Republican House Majority Leader, was recently sentenced to three years in prison, a sentence that is likely to be overturned on appeal. In fact, Judge Pat Priest, who sentenced DeLay, “acknowledged from the bench that appeals courts might not take the same view.”

The story of the witch hunt against Tom DeLay is a real life example of the liberal version of McCarthyism, only in this case the charges really are false. DeLay was the first major target in the Left’s attempt to criminalize their opposition.

To be clear, the charges against DeLay are frivolous. Beginning in 1995, Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi, stated that their goal was to “take [DeLay] out.” SInce then, they have come after Tom DeLay with one fallacious charge after the other.

The latest charge against DeLay, which earned him a three year prison sentence, was for money laundering. DeLay’s PAC (Political Action Committee) legally raised money to pay for administrative duties. This should have been the end of the case, as Texas law requires ill-gotten money to prosecute a money laundering case.

DeLay’s PAC raised more money than it needed, and sent $190,000 to the Republican National Committee. The RNC then sent $190,000 to Republican candidates in Texas. This type of a transaction, known as a “swap,” is common practice in politics. In fact, DeLay’s PAC was copied from a model already employed by Texas Democrats.

Democrats hated Tom DeLay because he was an exceptionally effective Whip, and Majority Leader. As such, they pursued the politics of personal destruction. When Democrats could not beat DeLay, his party, or his ideas at the ballot box, they tried to criminalize his politics.

As an aside, the DA that went after DeLay, Ronnie Early is a political hack, well known for his repeated fishing expeditions against Texas Republicans.

The politics of personal destruction and the criminalization of politics has become standard operating procedure for the Left. They routinely engage in vicious character assassinations against their “enemies,” as President Obama refers to his political opposition. Additionally, Democrats have continued to use the legal system to attack conservatives.

A textbook example of the Left’s despicable tactics has been the campaign against Sarah Palin and her family. Immediately after Palin was introduced on the national scene, her entire family was subjected to a wide assortment of vicious calumny. Not content to just attack the candidate, incredibly, the media savagely maligned the Governor’s teenage daughters.

Since 2008, Sarah Palin has been the target of a relentless campaign of lies and hate, courtesy of the Left. In fact, just this week Palin was repeatedly blamed for the shooting in Arizona, despite the total lack of evidence to substantiate such a claim. When Palin dared defend herself, the media, absurdly, accused her of being an anti-Semite.

Also, Sarah Palin resigned as Governor of Alaska because she was being harassed by opponents whom abused the legal system. Palin’s opponents filed a plethora of inane ethics violations charges. The charges made against Palin were fatuous. However, they prevented Palin from being an effective governor, and buried her in legal debts at a time in her life when she could not afford a robust defense.

The Left’s character assassinations and criminalization of politics are dangerous. They will continue to steer good people away from politics, and ensure that the worst continue to rise to the top.

With the 111th Congress finally out of Washington, the Left’s toadies in the media are all pushing the same talking point: that the ousted Congress was the “most productive Congress since the Great Society”:

Is a productive Congress supposed to be a good thing? The 111th Congress was very busy, passing horrendous legislation that the vast majority of people opposed – that is why Nancy Pelosi is no longer the Speaker of the House.

‘Productive’ Congresses have been the greatest bludgeon used against liberty. The Hundred Days of the 73rd Congress, often cited as the most ‘productive’ Congress in history, was quite possibly the most harmful 100 days in American history. In just 100 days, Congress rammed through much of President Roosevelt’s New Deal, among the worst and most damaging legislation ever passed.

Likewise, the 89th Congress, which passed the bulk of President Johnson’s Great Society, is often praised for their ‘productivity.’ Is the government ever going to read us the score from the Great Society? Instead of ending poverty, the government scheme fostered dependence degradation. In fact, the Great Society played a seminal role in the destruction of minority families.

In contrast, the 52nd United States Congress, which sat for 13 months in their two year term, passed little of note. They weren’t concerned with “spreading the wealth around,” there was no imposition of “fairness,” and there was no debate over “tax cuts for the rich” because there was no income tax (and the sky didn’t even fall).

In the 1920s the government controlled 2 per cent of Gross Domestic Product. A law was passed limiting the height of buildings in Washington D.C. because government officials were worried that tall buildings would emphasize the irrelevancy of the government. If only we still had that ‘problem.’

With Obamacare passed, the government is poised to takeover 6 per cent of the economy in one fell swoop. ‘Productive’ should not be a compliment when applied to Congress. In fact, ‘productive’ is probably the worst thing a Congress can be. The last thing a Congress should do is hurry through masses of legislation, especially bills that no one has read.

Rather than ‘productive,’ Congress should be prudent. Every bill should be carefully considered, with arguments from all sides given voice. Elected officials should only vote on a bill when all alternatives have been considered. If that means less legislation is passed, all the better. Bring on a ‘do nothing’ Congress – for about the next hundred years.

ABC News is reporting that in the last days of the Democrat fiefdom, the Pelosi, Reid, Obama troika are planning on ramming amnesty through the Congress.

The move to rush through the DREAM ACT illustrates that the Democrats understand that it was their agenda that was rejected by the voters this year. The Democrats are aware of the fact that most Americans reject their socialist vision. Instead of trying to convince the American people that socialism works, the Democrats want to legalize millions of new Democrat voters.

The Democratic Party is at war with the American way of life. They reject and want to disown the legacy and style of government drawn up by the Founders. In place of the Constitution, the Left wants to move in the direction of Western European socialism. In fact, that it exactly what Howard Dean said in his post-election analysis.

While the Democrats have done their best to “fundamentally transform” the United States, they have reached the limit. This November, voters put up a wall. The voting public saw the direction the Democrats were marching in and said a resounding ‘NO!’ to socialism. Democrats are many things, but politically incapable they are not. They see the writing on the wall. They were routed in the midterms, President Obama’s approval rating is stuck in the 40s, 26% of voters think the President will be reelected, and only 38% think Obama should be reelected. Not too much to be optimistic about for Democrats in 2012.

What if the Democrats could add a few million voters to the rolls in time for the election? That is what amnesty is about. It is a pure political calculation by the Democrats. The Democrats believe that the newly legalized voters will be another exploitable constituency. That is why the Democrats are champing at the bit to rush through amnesty, an immensely unpopular policy, in a Congress that has already lost the confidence of the American people.

That’s right – it’s all about ownership and equity. Democrats aren’t just interested in regulating wages, they want to shift ownership from the so-called rich to the poor.

It’s time that we refer to democrats as what they are – socialists. The soon to be former speaker isn’t talking about liberal economic policy, such as higher spending, more government programs, etc.. She isn’t talking about so-called “fair” wages. It’s property she’s interested in – control of the means of production.

Nancy Pelosi isn’t a socialist loon backbencher (though she may be two of the three things). She is the Speaker of the House – the third in line to become the President should, god forbid, something terrible happen to the President and Vice President. She is the third most prominent democrat in the United States. And, she’s a socialist.

It’s a good thing that in November, a lot of democrats will be joining the unemployed.

That very same media that ran headlines like “RNC shells out $150K for Palin fashion,” “Palin Clothes Spending Has Dems Salivating, Republicans Disgusted,” and “Sarah Palin’s Shopping Spree: Yes, There’s More...” As it turned out, tales of the Palin’s shopping sprees were proved to be utterly false. However, in a move shocking to none, the media is singing a different tune when it comes to a Democrat’s shopping habits.

November’s edition of Vogue magazine (otherwise known as ‘the bible’ over at Strictly Pop) has a six-page spread featuring Harry Reid’s “hottest member” of the Senate, Kirsten Gillibrand. Politico reports that:

The Vogue feature shows a different side of the senator, too: On one recent evening, Gillibrand hit Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for Fashion’s Night Out, where she tried on clothes, chatted up designers and even hit the dance floor where, as Van Meter puts it, “she cut it up like a seasoned pro.”

Isn’t that nice. So happy to hear that Sen. Gillibrand enjoyed her “fashion night out,” whatever that means. When conservatives buy clothes they are ‘out of touch’ and insensitive to the plight of the indigent. When liberals go on shopping sprees they are lauded.

Jonathan Van Meter, who wrote the Vogue story, commented “She wasn’t worried about how it was going to be perceived, and I loved how she wasn’t concerned about that. Some women lawmakers refuse to be fashionable and [Vogue Editor-in-Chief] Anna Wintour thinks, ‘Well, why can’t you be?’” Now we’re heaping adulation on politicians that don’t care about how their actions will be interpreted by their constituents. One can only wonder what Mario Cuomo thinks about Sen. Gillibrand’s lack of compassion.

The media double standard is once again on full display. Sarah Plain is described as an unfit mother because she entered politics. On the other hand, Nancy Pelosi ‘balanced the country on one knee, her family on the other’ when she was elected Speaker in 2006. The Palins were smeared for the RNC buying outfits for them, without the consent of Palins. Meanwhile, the left reports on how wonderful it is that Sen. Gillibrand is getting her ‘close-up.’

Just how toxic is the Democratic brand this year? Take a look at Georgia Democrat Jim Marshall’s latest ad:

Marshall’s commercial is almost as good as North Dakota Democrat Earl Pomeroy’s siting of his record of voting with President Bush in a campaign commercial.

Congressman Marshall actually compares his party’s leader to a bunch of San Francisco hippies. Only, despite what Marshall says now, he did vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. Additionally, even though Marshall now says that he would not vote for Pelosi as Speaker in the next Congress, should his party retain the majority, his vote would be irrelevant. Regardless of a handful of politically savvy Democrats in Republican districts, the vast majority of Democrats would still elect Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. Her election would allow the Democrats to continue to pass their radical agenda.Essentially, a vote for Marshall is still a vote to elect Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.

Also, we know that ‘Blue Dog’ Democrats are frauds. See: Bart Stupak. When it comes time to put their names on the line, Democrats buckle to their Leftist leaders. In the end, all elected Democrats are complicit in advancing the Obama-Pelosi-Reid comprehensive destruction of the United States.

The only way to stop the Leftists it to vote out Democrats. Do not be fooled by charlatan Democrats in moderate clothing.

Defundit.org (de-fund Obamacare) makes my point in this video:
