Oh yes, I’m back!
Words cannot express how grateful I am for the prayers and support that you’ve provided my family and I over the past six weeks.
As many of you know, in early December I went into a coma and was being treated for a number of related issues at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. At four points, my heart stopped, and it was through 90 minutes of CPR and the use of a rare device called an ECMO machine that my life was saved. Despite what happened, and despite predictions from medical professionals, it appears that there are no lingering effects (expect for the loss of 30 pounds from the “Feeding Tube Diet.”) There was no brain damage. In other words, I’m still a conservative.
Contrary to what some people have tried to do, I have no intention of making this into a debate about healthcare. The fact remains, I’m alive, and I’m now home and ready to get back to Strictly Right.
I want to send a special thanks to Michael Coren, Ann Coulter, Mark Steyn and Wendy Sullivan — all of them were wonderful at keeping me in their prayers and sharing with the online community what was happening. Wendy’s persistant stalking of my family was able to keep the Twittersphere apprised of what was happening.
Wendy also did a special episode of Brass Balls Radio in my honor with Kathy Shaidle, Jimmie Bise and Mike Williams (with messages from Jon Siemko, Kimberly Haney and Dina Fraioli) that was very therapeutic for both my family and myself. Connie Fournier at Free Dominion kept a prayer chain going in my name. I thank all of them from the bottom of my heart.
Most importantly, I need to share with all of Strictly Right’s readers how amazing my family is. While in Victoria Hospital’s Critical Care and Trauma Center, my parents, Jim and Trish Lawton, were virtually living at the hospital. My brother Adam and his extraordinary wife Lesley were at the hospital daily and were the filter for information through to the internet.
This whole experience — the cards, Tweets, Facebook messages and phone calls — has been humbling. To know that there were people all around the world keeping me in their thoughts and prayers and the fact that I barely made it proves to me that miracles do, in fact, exist.
Thank you for everything, and let me just say how happy I am to be back.
God bless,
Andrew
Michael Coren Show discussion on airport security
Tarek Fatah and I got into a pretty heated discussion on airport security on tonight’s show. Thanks to Mississauga Matt for getting the video up so quickly!
Mark Steyn on the Michael Coren Show
Thanks to Mississauga Matt for posting the video.

My new gig on the Michael Coren Show
I come with a very special announcement today! I’ve been approached by both Michael Coren and Crossroads Television to take on a regular panel position on The Michael Coren Show.
As of November 15th, you’ll now be able to see me represent brash, politically incorrect right-wing views on a weekly basis every Monday on Michael’s “Start the Week” panel!
Andrew Lawton and Michael Coren on the Mark Steyn Controversy
Everyone's a critic
As many of you know, I was scheduled to appear on a panel on The Michael Coren Show yesterday along with author Tarek Fatah and columnist John Turley-Ewart. Regretfully, on my way to the studio, I was in a car accident. I had informed Michael’s production staff what happened, and told them that my car was still drivable, but I would be a few minutes late from the scheduled taping time. Ridiculously heavy traffic delayed me even further, to the point where the taping had, with me being rushed onto the set during a commercial break. I made it onto the second half of the show thankfully, with the fact that I had been in a car accident shared quite openly with the audience. I received from interesting “feedback” on the show, however.

You stupid little jerk!
I am see you tonight on micheal coren show and you are saying racist thing about portugese. MY WIFE IS PORTUGESE!
maybe you have the auto accident tonight because you are much too bussy eating the hotdog and not affording attention to the road!
this is perhaps jesus punish you for been stupid little jerk!
From Sam Khan (sam_khan73@rocketmail.com)
you are a dispicable piece of human filth. i wish that car accident had killed you so you wouldnt be spreading your hate and racism with the world. next time you are going on the michael coren show, drive into a ditch and do the world a favour.
UPDATE:
The “racist thing about portuguese” that Sean mentioned was in response to something I said about the Toronto Police issuing a new language sensitivity project, forbidding the use of “racial identifiers” such as the word ‘Portuguese’ when describing suspects. I said, “It’s not just the police who are doing this. I went into my favorite restaurant last week and ordered the Portuguese chicken and and they threw me out!” Yes, that is the most racist thing the world has ever seen.
UPDATE: Andrew Lawton on the Michael Coren Show tonight!
You can tune into CTS Television tonight at 6:00 pm EST for another great bloggers panel! (The bedrooms of the nation are empty…no one was wearing pajamas though.) On Michael’s panel, M.J. Murphy and Dan Arnold represented the left, while Derek Fildebrandt from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation represented the right; and I represented the slightly more right.
The episode airs tonight at 6:00pm EST or tomorrow for a repeat at 12:30pm. I’ll post a link when it’s available online a few days later!
UPDATE: You can view the episode on the CTS website here.
Sarah Palin's Canadian Interview
Sarah Palin recently spoke in Hamilton, Ontario (and for a short time, that city had one positive quality) and on her trip only did one media appearance! Here is the video the former Governor’s CTS interview. In case you weren’t aware, CTS is Canada’s only Christian television network, and the network that hosts the Michael Coren show where Ari and I have appeared!

So much for free speech
Ann Coulter’s upcoming Canadian tour is moving forward without a hitch! That is, except for the part of a University’s Vice-Provost threatening criminal charges against her for a speech she hasn’t even given yet.
Michael Coren — the man who will be doing Ann’s only television interview while in Canada — posted the letter:
Dear Ms. Coulter,
I understand that you have been invited by University of Ottawa Campus Conservatives to speak at the University of Ottawa this coming Tuesday. We are, of course, always delighted to welcome speakers on our campus and hope that they will contribute positively to the meaningful exchange of ideas that is the hallmark of a great university campus. We have a great respect for freedom of expression in Canada, as well as on our campus, and view it as a fundamental freedom, as recognized by our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I would, however, like to inform you, or perhaps remind you, that our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or “free speech”) in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here. You will realize that Canadian law puts reasonable limits on the freedom of expression. For example, promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges. Outside of the criminal realm, Canadian defamation laws also limit freedom of expression and may differ somewhat from those to which you are accustomed. I therefore ask you, while you are a guest on our campus, to weigh your words with respect and civility in mind. There is a strong tradition in Canada, including at this University, of restraint, respect and consideration in expressing even provocative and controversial opinions and urge you to respect that Canadian tradition while on our campus. Hopefully, you will understand and agree that what may, at first glance, seem like unnecessary restrictions to freedom of expression do, in fact, lead not only to a more civilized discussion, but to a more meaningful, reasoned and intelligent one as well.
I hope you will enjoy your stay in our beautiful country, city and campus.
Sincerely,
François Houle.

This is just too good. Generally the left finds subtler ways to express their idiocy. Francois Houle has not disappointed us in what we expect from French Canadians has fed right into the hands of those who oppose censorship with his letter. This will be fun!

UPDATE: The University of Ottawa’s student council passed a motion this evening (after a 7-hour meeting) to petition the university’s administration to ban Ann Coulter from the campus.
