Miss me yet? Ohio Voters prefer Bush

Ohio voters would deliver President Bush a 50 – 42 landslide victory, if President Bush were to run against President Obama today. In 2008, Obama carried the state by over 260,000 votes.

The national poll numbers are also signalling a landslide victory for conservatives. A recent Gallup poll showed that likely voters preferred Republicans over Democrats by a 10% margin – the widest margin in 68 years.

This poll is further evidence that Obama is out of touch with Americans. On virtually every issue – whether its healthcare, tax hikes, bailouts, or the recent Ground Zero Mosque controversy – Obama has defied the American public. If Obama continues to alienate the American people, I anticipate that the Republicans will form a historic majority in the house and capture the senate.

If we use history as a guide, there is no reason to believe that Obama will stop siding with the Liberal establishment against the American people.

The November 2010 elections will be more than a referendum on Barack Obama – it is setting up to be a battle between conservatives and socialists. The success of the Tea Party Movement and the defeat of left leaning Republicans is evidence that conservatives are winning.

Despite the liberal spin, 2010 is not an anti-incumbent year. It is an anti-bailout-Obamacare-big government-left wing baloney year. The American people do not care whether a candidate has voted in congress before – just how they voted. Incumbents will, obviously, fare poorly in the elections after voting for the Obama agenda. But they are losing because of their votes, not their incumbency. Anti-incumbency is the left’s great excuse.

It’s time that liberals wake up to reality. Americans have rejected their socialist agenda.

Sarah Palin – an Articulate and Fearless Voice for Conservatism

With President Obama’s job approval rating falling all the way down to 46%, and his disapproval rating climbing to 49%, according to Real Clear Politics, which averages all major polls, it is impossible to ignore the choice the GOP will have to make by 2012: who will be the standard bearer against Obama?

Barack Obama and the Democrats have been relentless in advancing their statist agenda. They are taking over the economy one piece at a time, from the banks, to the auto companies to healthcare and beyond. Every day they are in power, they find new ways to stifle freedom and kill the American Dream. While this has proven incredibly harmful, it gives the Republican Party an opportunity to contrast itself against the radical left. Where the Democrats offer socialism, the Republicans can advocate a pro-freedom agenda.

Sarah Palin has been the most effective voice of the conservative alternative to the Democrats’ European style socialism. Through her Facebook posts, Twitter messages, television appearances and public speeches, the former Governor of Alaska has been a one woman wrecking crew, taking on Obama and his party at every turn. Sarah Palin is an articulate and fearless voice for modern, common-sense conservatism. The Left has predictably deployed its calumny tactics, trying to slime the Palin family. They have not quieted her.

However, there are still some on the Right that remain unconvinced. Their arguments against Palin are usually along the lines of: She’s unintelligent and she can’t win because she’s ‘too conservative.’ All of which, of course, is wrong.

The media uses the same tactics against every Republican candidate. Every last one. Does the intelligence argument sound familiar? In 1964 Barry Goldwater was dumb. Next, Gerald Ford was falsely portrayed as a bumbling idiot, then Ronald Reagan was an uneducated country bumpkin, Dan Quayle became the next target, followed by George W. Bush, who was the dumbest man in  America, according to the left, from 2000-2008. As for the ‘smart’ candidates? The Left loves to extol the brilliance of the man from Plains, Georgia, Jimmy Carter, to this day. They were enamored with the intellect of John ‘D-student’ Kerry. And then there is the ‘genius’ that currently occupies the Oval Office.

On one hand the ‘idiots’ cut taxes, grew the economy, and won the Cold War. On the other hand the “effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals” (as Spiro Agnew once put it) who have ascended to the Presidency have put the country’s very survival on the brink. Their policies have put the economy on life-support, swelled the ranks of the unemployed, and emboldened tyrants the world over.

The Right has to stop looking towards the self-appointed arbiters of intelligence for validation. Instead of repeating what David Brooks wrote in the New York Times, read, listen to and watch Governor Palin. Her positions are well thought-out and genuinely conservative. They are common-sense solutions to today’s problems. A Harvard education does not ensure sound decision making (in fact, a Harvard education may be detrimental to good decision making).

The Left disdains what Angelo Codevilla termed the “Country Class.” This classification contains the vast majority of Americans; people that have never attended an Ivy League institution, haven’t risen through the bureaucracy, and have to work every day to stay afloat. Sarah Palin is the best representative the ‘Country Class’ has on the political front. She has an accent that liberals mock. So do most Americans. She comes from a small town, as do most Americans. And most of all, she believes in God, an indefensible position to the modern Left. However, that is a position Palin shares with 92% of the American people. All these factors are why the Left savages Palin. The intelligence argument is old hat for Leftist smear merchants, and in this case, as with all the others documented above, it is an outright lie.

The ‘too conservative’ and ‘not electable’ arguments come up every election. The media says some radical leftist (Carter, Obama, Kerry…) is a ‘pragmatic centrist.’ Meanwhile, mainstream Republican challengers are made out to be conservative extremists. Sadly, conservatives ceaselessly desire acceptance ‘at the big table.’ They are not going to get it – ever. The GOP nominates duds, like John McCain, because they are ‘electable.’ ‘Electable’ candidates are losers. McCain got thumped. Congressional Republicans were Democrat-lite for nearly a half-century – and they never won (although, Bob Michel did get great tee-times with prominent Democrats). In 1980 the Republicans nominated their ‘conservative zealot.’ His name was Ronald Reagan. Reagan won two of the largest landslides in American history. In 1994, Congressional Republicans finally decided to give conservatism a try, and they won. As Rush Limbaugh likes to say “the blueprint for victory is there.” That is not to say conservatives can’t lose, as Barry Goldwater proved. In order to win, candidates need the total package, not just ideology. Of the rumored 2012 candidates the only conservative that stands out as a relaible, viable option is Sarah Palin. Her approval ratings have steadily climbed, following her low after the 2008 campaign, in which she was handled embarrassing poorly and was later even demonized by McCain apparatchiks. Can she win? No one can answer that now. Ruling her out due to the red herring of ‘electability’ at this point is foolish.

Conservatives have to stop striving for the approval of the elites. Instead of seeking the good graces of the ‘Ruling Class,’ the ‘Country Class’ should focus on advancing an agenda that will be embraced by the majority of Americans. That agenda is built upon the timeless principles that the Founders described as “self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” And the best trumpeter of that platform is Sarah Palin.

Most of y’all know that I’m a bit of a dittohead. Lately I haven’t been able to tune in as much as I’d like, but this one monologue of his from last-week is something you must listen to. A few days ago I wrote about Oliver Stone’s Jew hatred. The article attracted a commenter that identified himself as “Canadian Government Policy Analyst.” The man is a walking stereotype of the modern leftist anti-Semite. He holds regular people in contempt and is prone to conspiracy nonsense, as you can see below. The purpose of this post is purely to shame the commenter, who is clearly an elitist liberal Jew hater. The individual remains nameless because he did not have the courage to attach his name to his detestable comments.

If Americans haven’t heard of AIPAC, the ADL, the Jewish Warner Brothers, Fox, etc then they must be retarded. What about the Banking System controlled by Ben “Shalom” Bernanke, Allan Greenspan or Larry Summers.

Oliver Stone is a great director who causes people to think. I know most Conservatives can’t do that because we all know that the Earth is 6000 years old, Jesus was real and Global Warming is a hoax created by Communists. Right?

Stones got balls for being. If most Americans disagree with him on Jew Power than they are deservedly the biggest joke on the planet because every other nation knows that Jews Run the Western World and especially braindead America.

You sure have a solid point there – AIPAC and the ADL do exist – jackpot! Who could imagine such a devious scheme as a group of like minded people joining together to advocate their perspective?

And the Warner brothers – they were Jewish. They did build a business from the bottom up. Case and point! (one is left to wonder what this case and point are?)

And FOX, etc? That beats me. I guess Rupert Murdoch and Saudi prince al-Waleed bin Talal are secretly Jewish, right? Oh, and the media at large is just in the bag for Israel, right?

If you believe that Jamaicans run or influence Hollywood significantly or that the Somali lobby, Pakistani lobby or the Irish lobby are as powerful and vicious as the Israel/Jew lobby you are not living in the real world. Get real man!!!

It would appear as though you’ve uncovered an insidious Jewish conspiracy in Hollywood. Time Warner, the publicly traded parent company of Warner Brothers along with General Electric, the publicly traded parent company of Universal, are really in secret Zionist cahoots!

And you’re right – the Jews are the only interest group that exerts pressure on the American government. There are no other lobby groups – that is why lobbyists are in such low supply. I’m sure you also believe that the ‘neo-cons’ are working to advance the Zionist agenda, right? Perhaps when people call you a Jew hater it’s because….. you are one. Feminism vs. Capitalism

I’m actually interested in hearing some of the feedback on this issue. I posted a discussion about this on my Facebook page this evening to see the Libertarians and the Feminists duke it out.

A Hamilton, Ontario woman was breastfeeding her son in the “play area” of her local McDonald’s when the [female] manager on duty approached her and asked her to do it elsewhere (like in the washroom, for example) on the grounds that it was making some of the other customers uncomfortable. Of course, what better way to combat being asked to leave a restaurant than to contact the local press!

In any case, I don’t have any sort of problem with women breastfeeding. It’s natural, it’s normal. That being said, it’s up to any local business owner to ask anyone they’d like to leave for any reason. It’s called the free market. That being said, the free market also allows for mothers to team up and boycot a restaurant that won’t allow women to breastfeed there. Of course, property rights are inevitibly lost upon the left as is any sort of liberty.

The woman’s response was, “This is a restaurant and my child is having his dinner.” Proving that I should not be in customer service, my rebuttal would have been, “outside food and beverages are not permitted. Sorry ma’am.”

Empahthy On The Court

When Barack Obama says he wants judges who have “empathy,” is this what he means?

A perfect nominee. This nut has “empathy” for a serial killer rapist that has accepted his punishment – the death penalty. How about some empathy for the victims families? What does it say about the President when he nominates a judge to a federal appellate court that has “empathy” for a reprobate like Ross? Elections have consequences. When Democrats are in power they destroy the country piece by piece.

In the April 30th episode of Strictly Right Radio Andrew and I discussed the left’s relentless assault on individual liberty. The left, and many well meaning people, may think this to be hyperbole. This is an argument I had back in March on the Michael Coren Show. The Obama administration vindicates my position every day. We have seen it in health care, banking regulations and a whole host of other fields. They want to take away your liberty. They believe, as Ronald Reagan said of the left in his day, in “abandon[ing] the America Revolution and confess[ing] that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.” The latest example of this arrogance of power comes in a pending attempt to control what children eat.

The White House warns,

“The childhood obesity epidemic in America is a national health crisis.” (of course – everything is a Crisis!)

The review by the Task Force on Childhood Obesity says one out of every three children is overweight or obese. The task force is a key part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to solve the problem of obesity within a generation. President Obama ordered the comprehensive review of the issue…

The task force wants junk food makers and marketers to go on what amounts to an advertising diet. It says media characters that are often popular with kids should only be used to promote healthy products. If voluntary efforts fail to limit marketing of less healthy products to young viewers, the task force suggests the FCC should consider new rules on commercials in children’s programming. It also challenges food retailers to stop using in-store displays to sell unhealthy food items to children.

The advisory panel proposes better food content labeling on products and vending machines. Restaurants and vending machine companies are urged to display calorie counts. The experts say the FDA and USDA should cooperate with the food and beverage industries to develop a standard system of nutrition labeling on the front of packages. The study also suggests that restaurants should re-evaluate portion sizes, improve kids’ menus and list more healthy food choices.

The White House study says school systems should consider efforts to promote healthier food in cafeterias. One idea: “swap deep fryers for salad bars.”

Some of you may say ‘so what? Obesity is a problem (though to my knowledge not an infectious disease) and this sounds like a good solution.’ You may also think that laws that forbid smoking in restaurants are a step in the right direction, because smoking is ‘bad.’ This is the slow creep of tyranny. It is not within the purview of the federal government to make such decisions for us. Is smoking bad for your health? Of course it is. I must have missed the section of the Constitution that gave the government the right to determine what is ‘good’  and what is ‘bad’ for my health. Now the FCC is going to make new rules on who can run advertisements on children’s programing based on the nutritional value of the products? Forgive me, but I thought parents were responsible for what their children put in their mouths, not the federal government. If parents want to let their children get fat, so be it – what you eat is no business of the government. Kids like sugary and fatty foods – who doesn’t? The left thinks you are just the lowly hoi polloi. As George Will said, “the core of today’s liberalism [is that] the American people are such dopes they cannot be counted upon [to make their own decisions].” Whether the state’s intentions are benevolent or malicious, the fact is that every day the left is conspiring, trying to find new ways to ‘help,’ or as Cass Sunstein says, “nudge” you in the ‘right’ direction. The result is a usurpation of liberty and usually a state orchestrated, ‘unforeseen’ disaster. It is our duty to remember that “freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same,” as Ronald Reagan said.

Thank God for Unions

It would seem that the peace-loving, sodomy-promoting, global warming-quelling, vomit-inducing neo-Marxist teachers union (I thought of a whole bunch of really good adjectives tonight and didn’t know where else to use them) has stooped to a new low — praying for the death of the new Republican Governor, Chris Christie. An internal memo from the president of the New Jersey Education Association had an interesting request for God:

“Dear Lord, this year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman, Billy Mays. I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor.”

Amusing? Kind of. But, in the nagging words of my mother from my youth, “there’s a time and a place for everything.” And truth be told, I still haven’t figured out the appropriate place for leftism…I’ll get back to you on that one.

So, once again we see that the Right uses debate and intellect for discussion, and the Godless Left resorts to emotional death threats. But yet, at least they’ve learned how to pray now.

Rollback?

In the previous post on this site Andrew made the point that the Conservative Party of Canada’s new budget is anything but conservative. Now there are a plethora of reasons for the size and scope of the budget that could be debated from here to kingdom come, but the unavoidable fact is that Canada’s ‘conservative’ government has not been conservative. Under the Conservative Party of Canada there has not been a rollback of the welfare state. Canada still has state-run medical care and there is no discussion over abolishing or even really reforming the system coming from the Conservative Party, as health care is seen as a political third rail. The question that arises is “is it even possible for a government to be conservative in a welfare state?” In 1955 William F. Buckley Jr, said the goal of National Review, and the conservative movement he would lead was to “stand athwart history, yelling Stop…” What do we do if we don’t stop the left?

The left has followed Norman Thomas’ plan and implemented socialism incrementally. Once an entitlement is entrenched it is all but impossible to have it repealed. In a country like Canada even a nominally conservative government will not touch the enormous welfare state. Rather, the political debate rages over who can most effectively manage the welfare state. This is not so much an indictment of the Conservative Party as it is a realistic view of  government. Most people do not have the courage to dismantle an unsustainable welfare state because they fear the political backlash. Instead, governments pile on debts, put on band aides and kick the can down the road. This can work as a quick fix, but eventually countries have to face a day of reckoning. In order to make this eventuality less painful it would behoove  conservative governments to start scaling back the government while it is still our choice. The question is, is there the political will to rollback the state? In the United States, if Obamacare passes and Democrats lose in 2010 and 2012 will the GOP have the intestinal fortitude to scrap Obamacare? Will Social Security be reformed to make it solvent? Will the precious entitlements in the budget actually be cut? One can only hope that it is still possible not just to run on a conservative platform, but to actually implement conservative solutions once in power.
