At least some people will get turned on by the Democrats

As much as I love blogging about Ann Coulter (seriously, I love it) I figured that the 1% of you who don’t care may appreciate some news about a Strictly Right favorite, healthcare!

You all know that healthcare passed in the House last week by the tiniest of margins, through using reconciliation. With that, you may not have known that even the tiniest amendment to the bill would result in the bill having to be sent back to Congress to get voted on. Well, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) didn’t disappoint, putting forth an amendment to not provide Viagra or other erectile dysfunction drugs to sex offenders. If the Democrats vote “yes” on this amendment, they have to re-vote on the entire bill (and they risk alienating their ex-con support base.) But, if they vote “no” Allahpundit raises the million dollar question:

How long after they vote on the Viagra amendment before we see a YouTube ad asking, “Why does Harry Reid want to give rapists erections”?

Rep. Bart 'Faust' Stupak Folds like a Cheap Suit

Surprise! Rep. Bart ‘Faust‘ Stupak wasn’t really interested in abortion – a little time to bask in the glory of the chosen one and a flimsy executive order was all it took to capture the votes of the Stupak coalition.

Let’s make a deal… Stupak vs. Faust:

Stupak’s deal gave the dems the five votes necessary to take control of American healthcare until, well, the end of time. In exchange, Stupak received an executive order that will hold until: (1) the next democrat President is elected after Obama and repeals it or (2) Obama changes his mind. Hopefully the messiah also threw in a visit to Stupak’s riding – that’ll be the nail in the coffin for Stupak.

Faust’s deal gave the devil his soul until, well, the end of time. In exchange, Faust received knowledge for the rest of his life. Faust dies, so does the knowledge, and he is damned for eternity.

And so it’s done. On March 21, 2009, the greatest healthcare system in the world was dealt a fatal blow… so reads the obituary.

Representative Bart Stupak and President Barack Obama

I’m sorry that I couldn’t find a photo of Stupak accepting political favors for his vote, which is funny because I thought CSPAN was going to be allowed to film all negotiations.

Give 'Em Hell, John!

Just remember it aint over yet everybody – all is not lost. So Bart Stupak and his lapdog losers  were as phony as a $3 bill – are you surprised? News flash – they’re Democrats! We’ll push ‘em back. Now is the time for every Republican to pledge that the first action they will take upon being elected is the full and complete repeal of this disaster. In the video above John Boehner sounded the right message for the GOP “HELL NO!” If you are still depressed, just remember the placard that Ronaldus Magnus kept on his desk: And it will be done.

Here’s some additional motivation:

Great Day For The GOP On Meet The Press (Updated)

A great effort by John Boehner on Meet the Press today:

Take note of how Hoyer attempts to assert that the American people actually support the Democrat’s health care abomination. David Gregory then politely pointed out that in fact, the latest WSJ/NBC poll shows that in fact, most people oppose this mess (by a margin of 48% against and 36% in favor).

In this clip RNC Chairman Michael Steele says all the right things and promises to repeal Obamacare WHEN the adults are put back in charge of the government. Steele did a great job pointing out the fundamental philosophical difference between the American people and the Democrats. A great video – if you can stay awake through Tim Kaine.

If this bill passes it will be the first time in American history that such a major piece of legislation will pass on a strictly partisan vote. In addition, the Democrats will re-order 1/6 of the United States economy, against the will of the people. Let this be a lesson to anyone who supports a 3rd party, or who has committed the cardinal sin of voting for a Democrat.

UPDATE: I’m shocked, just shocked, that the Lapdog Dems are all caving and voting for the Obamacare abomination. Bart ‘phony as a $3 bill’ Stupak and his claque of ‘pro-life’ Democrats (an oxymoron) are set to vote for this obviously anti-life legislation. FOX News says Stupak is undecided

Nancy, please just drop dead

To maximize your viewing, I’ve added what she wanted to say in the transcript below. Enjoy.

Today is the feast of St. Joseph the Worker [or some other guy], particularly significant to Italian Americans. And it’s a day where we remember and pray to St. Joseph to benefit the workers of America [Vive la revolution of Che and Lenin!]. And that’s exactly what our healthcare bill will do. I’m [not] very excited about the [lack of] momentum that is developing around the bill. Some of you were present earlier in the week when we started with little children — babies as young as 6 weeks old [the ones who weren't aborted] — to talk about what it means to them. Moving onto young people a couple of days ago, to seniors, to women, to small businesses. This is very important legislation. So, again, as I say to you every time I see you, we’re one day closer to passing historic legislation which will make history of course, but progress for the American people.

I’m pleased that we got a letter representing 60 leaders of religious orders. Sisters, I’m pleased to say, the school sisters of Notre Dame and the sisters of Notre Dame de Namur — two sisters who taught me in my life are on the list. But every order that you can think of was there, saying that they wanted us to pass this life-affirming legislation. [Okay well legislation at least.]

Nancy Pelosi is doing nothing more than trying to remind the pro-lifers who are hesitant to vote ‘yes’ that religious groups are supporting the bill. However, I have to ask…since when do Democrats pray?

It takes talent to use 2309 pages to say nothing

At least the Democrats are getting good at something.

Philip Klein of The American Spectator Reports:

In a phone interview with TAS Thursday afternoon, [Rep. Paul] Ryan [R-WI] said that he expects Democrats to begin the complex process on Monday, under which they would have the Budget Committee approve a phantom bill by midnight, which they will then send over to the Rules Committee. At that point, the Rules Committee will strip out all of the language in the phantom bill, and insert the changes to the Senate bill that Democrats have negotiated.

Now, this whole rigmarole sounds a little confusing — which it is. The Democrats have attempted to look at every possible loophole to pass Obamacare without going through the standard congressional process. Big surprise, they failed. So, instead of finding a loophole they’re making stuff up, which David Axelrod doesn’t seem to mind:

The one thing I’m sure of is that the American people don’t know or care much about the sequencing of parliamentary procedures. They want an up or down vote after a year long debate to bring this to a close.

Well David, you’re right that Americans do want to bring this to a close. Similarly, they also want to bring the Chicago politics that you and B. Hussein Obama seem to insistent on keeping in the White House to a close. Sorry, what was that? You don’t actually care about what Americans want? My bad.

Healthcare has become the new Chicago 2016 Olympics. Politicians have lost sight of whether or not it’s a good idea. Now, it’s simply a legacy bill. Obama doesn’t care about health insurance for the poor; he proved that quite clearly when he let one of his supporters die (and be buried in a Barack Obama t-shirt.) He doesn’t care about saving the world one free surgery at a time, he wants to go down in the history books. And he will, and the first one-term African American President.

Killing kids works better than discipline anyway

According to the Democratic leadership at least. Representative Bart Stupak (R-MI) is one of the few non-idiotic rational Democrats. In other words, he’s a proud ‘NO’ vote for Obamacare based on the bill’s strong support and advocacy for abortion and his pro-life values. Of course, Stupak was the one who introduced the creatively-named ‘Stupak Amendment’ to the Obama healthcare overhaul removing a lot of the support for Abortion. While Stupak isn’t leaving his party, he seems quite aware of the fact that his own party is ignoring him and keeping him out of negotiations, and the Democrats seem insistent on pushing forth their pro-death agenda.

Apparently the Democrats are getting into business of population control.

If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more.

On the upside, at least the Democrats are finally interested in keeping costs down.

More Evidence of an 'Unbiased' MSM

In an piece with Democrat representative Elijah Cummings, well-known objective journalist Andrea Mitchell pleaded with Cummings to “get this [Obamacare] for him [Obama].” Is it even necessary to point out that the media is in the tank for Obama at this point? Video and transcript below:

ANDREA MITCHELL: Bottom line, what happens if you don’t get health care for this president is, this is really all-or-nothing for the sense of his power, his legacy, he’s invested so much in this, in this first year. You’ve got to get this for him.

ELIJAH CUMMINGS: Andrea, I agree with you a million percent.

Rollback?

In the previous post on this site Andrew made the point that the Conservative Party of Canada’s new budget is anything but conservative. Now there are a plethora of reasons for the size and scope of the budget that could be debated from here to kingdom come, but the unavoidable fact is that Canada’s ‘conservative’ government has not been conservative. Under the Conservative Party of Canada there has not been a rollback of the welfare state. Canada still has state-run medical care and there is no discussion over abolishing or even really reforming the system coming from the Conservative Party, as health care is seen as a political third rail. The question that arises is “is it even possible for a government to be conservative in a welfare state?” In 1955 William F. Buckley Jr, said the goal of National Review, and the conservative movement he would lead was to “stand athwart history, yelling Stop…” What do we do if we don’t stop the left?

The left has followed Norman Thomas’ plan and implemented socialism incrementally. Once an entitlement is entrenched it is all but impossible to have it repealed. In a country like Canada even a nominally conservative government will not touch the enormous welfare state. Rather, the political debate rages over who can most effectively manage the welfare state. This is not so much an indictment of the Conservative Party as it is a realistic view of  government. Most people do not have the courage to dismantle an unsustainable welfare state because they fear the political backlash. Instead, governments pile on debts, put on band aides and kick the can down the road. This can work as a quick fix, but eventually countries have to face a day of reckoning. In order to make this eventuality less painful it would behoove  conservative governments to start scaling back the government while it is still our choice. The question is, is there the political will to rollback the state? In the United States, if Obamacare passes and Democrats lose in 2010 and 2012 will the GOP have the intestinal fortitude to scrap Obamacare? Will Social Security be reformed to make it solvent? Will the precious entitlements in the budget actually be cut? One can only hope that it is still possible not just to run on a conservative platform, but to actually implement conservative solutions once in power.
