Palin Wins, Again

“Mama Grizzly Man: why the candidate of Sarah Palin and the Tea Party is losing in Alaska,” written by Alexandra Gutierrez on Slate, begins:

On Tuesday, in her home state, Sarah Palin’s favorite will probably get trounced. Joe Miller is widely expected to lose by a large margin to incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Republican primary—an embarrassing defeat for the former governor, who has endorsed Miller, but also to Miller’s other major backer, the Tea Party Express…

Always a long shot, Miller lags behind Murkowski, the heir to one of Alaska’s political dynasties, by double digits.

In her next round of anti-Palin crowing, Gutierrez wrote a hatchet-job, this time for the American Prospect,  entitled “The End of Palin as Kingmaker.” In anticipation of Joe Miller’s assured “trouncing,”  Gutierrez relished the fact that Sarah Palin’s influence was at its lowest low ebb. If Palin could’t even move a race in her home state, where she once enjoyed the highest approval rating of any governor in the country, where could she win? Gutierrez wrote:

If she doesn’t represent Alaska, it’s become abundantly obvious that she doesn’t represent the views of many other states, either…

Today Miller will be added to that list of those embarrassments [failed endorsements], and there will be some fretting about Sarah Palin’s status as a GOP star. And maybe — just maybe — those fascinated by her will start to realize what Alaskans have long figured out: These days, the former governor is more ringmaster than kingmaker.

However, a funny thing happened on the way to the circus. Joe Miller didn’t just make it close; it appears as though he pulled off a stunning upset, and ousted GOP incumbent senator, and member of the the Alaskan royal family, Lisa Murkowski. Who does Miller credit? Again from Gutierrez:

The Miller team, though, sees Palin’s support as one of their most powerful weapons. “An endorsement from her is kind of like a Good Housekeeping seal of approval,” says Randy DeSoto, his spokesperson. It put Miller “on the national map.”

In fact, it doesn’t stop there. Today on Red State Erick Erickson had this to say:

Last night on CNN I suggested that Palin’s endorsements only matter in some cases like Nikki Haley’s, but over all were no more impactful than other endorsements. Glad to say I was wrong. She’s five for five last night it seems with Miller bringing her up to six for six. And there are a number of state legislative races in Alaska where her support was critical.

Governor Palin’s string of winning endorsements contradicts the prevailing wisdom that the Governor does not appeal to the electorate (a point I have made). Contra the ‘consensus’ opinion, it would appear as though a Palin endorsement can make all the difference in a winning campaign. It is difficult to imagine the GOP primary in Alaska being anything but a formality, but for Sarah Palin. As Palin accumulates chips, with a growing list of winning candidates to her name, the ‘unwinnable’ argument ought to be thrown on the ash heap of history.

Sarah Palin – an Articulate and Fearless Voice for Conservatism

With President Obama’s job approval rating falling all the way down to 46%, and his disapproval rating climbing to 49%, according to Real Clear Politics, which averages all major polls, it is impossible to ignore the choice the GOP will have to make by 2012: who will be the standard bearer against Obama?

Barack Obama and the Democrats have been relentless in advancing their statist agenda. They are taking over the economy one piece at a time, from the banks, to the auto companies to healthcare and beyond. Every day they are in power, they find new ways to stifle freedom and kill the American Dream. While this has proven incredibly harmful, it gives the Republican Party an opportunity to contrast itself against the radical left. Where the Democrats offer socialism, the Republicans can advocate a pro-freedom agenda.

Sarah Palin has been the most effective voice of the conservative alternative to the Democrats’ European style socialism. Through her Facebook posts, Twitter messages, television appearances and public speeches, the former Governor of Alaska has been a one woman wrecking crew, taking on Obama and his party at every turn. Sarah Palin is an articulate and fearless voice for modern, common-sense conservatism. The Left has predictably deployed its calumny tactics, trying to slime the Palin family. They have not quieted her.

However, there are still some on the Right that remain unconvinced. Their arguments against Palin are usually along the lines of: She’s unintelligent and she can’t win because she’s ‘too conservative.’ All of which, of course, is wrong.

The media uses the same tactics against every Republican candidate. Every last one. Does the intelligence argument sound familiar? In 1964 Barry Goldwater was dumb. Next, Gerald Ford was falsely portrayed as a bumbling idiot, then Ronald Reagan was an uneducated country bumpkin, Dan Quayle became the next target, followed by George W. Bush, who was the dumbest man in  America, according to the left, from 2000-2008. As for the ‘smart’ candidates? The Left loves to extol the brilliance of the man from Plains, Georgia, Jimmy Carter, to this day. They were enamored with the intellect of John ‘D-student’ Kerry. And then there is the ‘genius’ that currently occupies the Oval Office.

On one hand the ‘idiots’ cut taxes, grew the economy, and won the Cold War. On the other hand the “effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals” (as Spiro Agnew once put it) who have ascended to the Presidency have put the country’s very survival on the brink. Their policies have put the economy on life-support, swelled the ranks of the unemployed, and emboldened tyrants the world over.

The Right has to stop looking towards the self-appointed arbiters of intelligence for validation. Instead of repeating what David Brooks wrote in the New York Times, read, listen to and watch Governor Palin. Her positions are well thought-out and genuinely conservative. They are common-sense solutions to today’s problems. A Harvard education does not ensure sound decision making (in fact, a Harvard education may be detrimental to good decision making).

The Left disdains what Angelo Codevilla termed the “Country Class.” This classification contains the vast majority of Americans; people that have never attended an Ivy League institution, haven’t risen through the bureaucracy, and have to work every day to stay afloat. Sarah Palin is the best representative the ‘Country Class’ has on the political front. She has an accent that liberals mock. So do most Americans. She comes from a small town, as do most Americans. And most of all, she believes in God, an indefensible position to the modern Left. However, that is a position Palin shares with 92% of the American people. All these factors are why the Left savages Palin. The intelligence argument is old hat for Leftist smear merchants, and in this case, as with all the others documented above, it is an outright lie.

The ‘too conservative’ and ‘not electable’ arguments come up every election. The media says some radical leftist (Carter, Obama, Kerry…) is a ‘pragmatic centrist.’ Meanwhile, mainstream Republican challengers are made out to be conservative extremists. Sadly, conservatives ceaselessly desire acceptance ‘at the big table.’ They are not going to get it – ever. The GOP nominates duds, like John McCain, because they are ‘electable.’ ‘Electable’ candidates are losers. McCain got thumped. Congressional Republicans were Democrat-lite for nearly a half-century – and they never won (although, Bob Michel did get great tee-times with prominent Democrats). In 1980 the Republicans nominated their ‘conservative zealot.’ His name was Ronald Reagan. Reagan won two of the largest landslides in American history. In 1994, Congressional Republicans finally decided to give conservatism a try, and they won. As Rush Limbaugh likes to say “the blueprint for victory is there.” That is not to say conservatives can’t lose, as Barry Goldwater proved. In order to win, candidates need the total package, not just ideology. Of the rumored 2012 candidates the only conservative that stands out as a relaible, viable option is Sarah Palin. Her approval ratings have steadily climbed, following her low after the 2008 campaign, in which she was handled embarrassing poorly and was later even demonized by McCain apparatchiks. Can she win? No one can answer that now. Ruling her out due to the red herring of ‘electability’ at this point is foolish.

Conservatives have to stop striving for the approval of the elites. Instead of seeking the good graces of the ‘Ruling Class,’ the ‘Country Class’ should focus on advancing an agenda that will be embraced by the majority of Americans. That agenda is built upon the timeless principles that the Founders described as “self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” And the best trumpeter of that platform is Sarah Palin.

Paychecks to Shrink due to Obamacare

Remember all the talk about how Obamacare would make healthcare more affordable?

Turns out, its having the opposite effect.

As reported by Bloomberg:

About 63 percent of businesses plan to make employees pay a higher percentage of their premium costs in 2011, said the Washington-based National Business Group on Health, which surveyed 72 companies that employ more than 3.7 million people. The survey showed 46 percent plan to raise the maximum level of out-of-pocket costs that workers must bear.

Obamacare shifts the power from patient/doctor to the government, is widely opposed by doctors, and takes money out of Americans’ pockets when they need it most. It’s no wonder that 60% of Likely Voters now favor the repeal of Obamacare.

It’s scary to imagine how much more Americans will be paying for healthcare if this legislation is fully enacted in 2013.

It’s time the government starts respecting the will of the American people.

A Sault Ste. Marie woman is outraged after she witnessed a man masturbating in the bed across from her in a mixed-gender hospital ward last month while she was recovering from a heart attack.The man in the bed across from her masturbated and the man in the bed beside her gave her “the eye.”

Still, Karen Lowe, 61, was more upset by the laissez-faire attitude of hospital employees.

According to Lowe, the nurses found it too “hilarious” to do anything about it. Not gonna lie, I’d probably be laughing too if I were one of them. The issue at hand though isn’t that a pervert got his rocks off to a 61-year old, but rather that the only reason men and women share rooms at this hospital is because of government cutbacks. This isn’t the only hospital to do such a thing either. Public healthcare kills, and all things considered, this incident could well have given Karen Lowe another heart attack!

The ancient sex guide dating back 1,600 years has been published as an audio book for the first time in its long history in what its British-based publisher described as a “perfect meeting of ancient history and modernity.”

“Now there’s no need to feel embarrassed by reading a copy of this wonderful and important book in public — simply download it on to your mp3 player and liven up your commute to work,” said Simon Petherick, managing director of Beautiful Books.

Paris Hilton sued for bad hair days (US Magazine)

Paris Hilton was sued Wednesday by a hair extension company that claims she breached their contract with them by wearing a competitor’s fake hair.

Hairtech International Inc. is seeking $35 million in damages, which is 10 times what she was paid under her contract, according to the AP. The fraud and breach-of-contract suit also cites Hilton’s partying for going against its marketing campaign.

Hairtech is also annoyed Hilton, 29, missed the line’s 2007 launch party because she was serving 23 days in jail for driving twice on a suspended license while on probation for reckless driving. The company says it lost $6.6 million on Hilton’s absence from the fete.

French police drop minimum height (Guardian)

A new decree has abolished the 1.6m (5ft 3in) minimum height for recruits to the French police force, the Police Nationale, declaring the selection of candidates on such criteria as “no longer justified”.

Customs officers and prison guards have also been told they no longer have to measure up to a minimum height.

Customs officers will no longer have to prove they have “full use of their upper and lower limbs“, or boast an “elocution and pronunciation allowing their words to be normally understood“.

Alvin Greene Indicted: He really is the perfect Democrat

If there was any doubt that U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene (D-SC) would fit in with the Democratic Party, the latest news should seal his fate. Alvin Greene was the long-shot sacrificial lamb candidate elected to challenge Sen. Jim DeMint for re-election in November.

Authorities said he approached a student in a University of South Carolina computer lab, showed her obscene photos online, then talked about going to her dorm room.

A Richland County grand jury indicted Greene, 32, for disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity — a felony — as well as a misdemeanor charge of communicating obscene materials to a person without consent.

If convicted, Greene could face up to three years for the misdemeanor or up to five years for the felony.

Now, I wouldn’t be too worried as I don’t think his chances at victory could be any lower. However, let’s face it, this is the idiot who thought that selling bobbleheads of himself would be the best way to help the economy.

Still Bush's fault

We’ve seen former president George W. Bush take the blame for the economy, lack of jobs, and even the BP oil spill. Now, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has found something new to blame ole’ W. for: her own ethics violations.

Embattled Rep. Maxine Waters on Friday blamed the Bush administration for her ethics problems — saying she had to intervene with the Treasury Department on behalf of minority-owned banks seeking federal bailout funds — including one tied to her husband — because the Treasury Department wouldn’t schedule its own appointments.

The California Democrat said in a Capitol Hill news conference — an event rarely held during a congressional recess — that she reached out to then-Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson in late 2008 when his department failed to respond to the National Bank Association’s request for a meeting.

Of course, this sort of corruption shouldn’t come as a surprise from someone who, from 1996-2004 had relatives earning a collective total of $1 million from companies that Waters had helped in her role as Congresswoman.

Unfortunately, Maxine Waters is black, however. Therefore, I’m a racist.
