California students sent home for being patriotic
From FOX News:
Administrators at a California high school sent five students home on Wednesday after they refused to remove their American flag T-shirts and bandannas — garments the school officials deemed “incendiary” on Cinco de Mayo.
The five teens were sitting at a table outside Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Calif., on Wednesday morning when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two of them to remove their American flag bandannas, the Morgan Hill Times reported. The boys told the newspaper they complied, but were asked to accompany Rodriguez to the principal’s office.
The five students [...] were then told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home, though it would not be considered a suspension. Rodriguez told the students he did not want any fights to break out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags.
The article also said that the kids were told they could wear their American flag t-shirts and bandannas any other day of the year, just not on a day that Mexicans are wanting to celebrate their heritage. The fact that the principal is of Hispanic descent makes this story a little more amusing as it’s generally white liberals who insist on injecting political correctness into any known crevice of the universe. However, how can you set a different standards for what’s allowed one day than you do for 364 other days?
If someone wants to go to school on the Fourth of July wearing a Saudi Flag wrapped around them, that’s absolutely fine (though I probably wouldn’t let them near the AV room or the Chemistry lab.) If someone wants to celebrate the Fourth of July by singing Rule Brittania and waving a Union Jack around, that’s completely their choice as all. The premise of this decision made by the school is that there is something about Mexican values and American values that are mutually exclusive. If that premise existed, there would be 100+ Mexicans at that school learning about American history and American values on a day-to-day basis.
Being patriotic is not offensive, so get stuffed Miguel.

I would rather they have brought their shotguns to school as a sign of patriotism. If you want to celebrate Cinco de mayo do it…that’s fine bu don’t take away the right for proud Americans to be themselves and celebrate their country, something we should do EVERY day.

While it is sad, its not surprising. Today, aetheists all over America are protesting the day of prayer, saying its oppressing their freedom to not be bombarded by those damn Christians and their prayers. A judge in Winsconsin ruled a day of prayer was unconstitutional, despite the O’s rather eloquent declaration of the day of prayer (go listen to it or read a transcript, I loathe the man, but his speechwriters did him well on the opening of the day).
You’re welcome to celebrate your heritage and your pride just so long as you’re not celebrating being American, Christian, White or any of those other bigotry-filled poisitions.

The last time I looked California was still part of the USA, not Mexico. We should be able to show our patriotic support on any day of the year. If this school stands on their decision they should have all Federal money withheld, and any state money should also be withheld. I also would support any patriotic property owner that did not want to support that school with their property taxes. I work for a school and I would not support the administration if they made that decision here. If this was to have happened in Mexico I would stand by the school administration because

Once again Andrew you manage to display nothing but pure ignorance and racism. It would be inappropriate to wear any sort of anti-semitic display on a Jewish holiday or on Veteran’s Day, so wearing pro-American stuff on a day that is done to DELIBERATELY incite hatred on another country’s day of celebration is just as deplorable.

Easily the most idiotic statement I have ever read.
