You Have To Read It To Believe It

Sometimes you read an article that is so far removed from reality you question whether the writer is living in the same universe as the rest of us. Mark Halperin’s Obama Ahead of Election 2010: The Secrets of His Success in the latest issue of Time is one of those articles. To take this article seriously requires a “willing suspension of disbelief,” as Hillary Clinton would say. Picking up on the Democrat memo going around, Halperin asserts that the secret to Obama’s success has been his vision, and centrist approach. Yes, you read that correctly, Obama’s centrist approach.

First, Halperin praises Obama’s staff selections. Did you know the Obama administration has stayed clear of scandals? I guess if you don’t count tax cheats Tim Geithener, Tom Daschle, Van Jones, Cass Sunstein, Kevin Jennings, Carol Browner, John Holdren, Harold Koh, Dawn Johnson, and Kathleen Sebelius the administration has remained scandal free. Oh yeah, and Halperin thinks that Joe Fucking Biden has done a bang-up job.

Second, Halperin credits Obama with keeping up a positive image. Interesting claim, seeing as the President has had the lowest approval ratings of any president at this point in his presidency.

Third, Obama is hailed for being “deployed with strategic planning and tactical nimbleness.” In reality, Obama has been deployed with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. He is on TV all the time – literally. Not a day goes by without the President giving a speech or holding some sort of rally. He also pops up at EVERY major event.Watch the Superbowl? There was an interview. College basketball finals? He was interviewed. Apparently he will even be on American Idol in the near future. He is literally everywhere.

Fourth, Halperin claims that Obama has “preserved the majesty of the office.” By bowing to every third-world tinpot dictator and apologizing for the country wherever he goes I presume.

Fifth, and last, Halperin commended Obama for all the wonderful legislation he has passed, and all the goodies coming in the future. Yeah, there’s that pesky deficit, but don’t worry, he’ll handle it. No word on how, only mention is that after Republican gains in 2010, Obama will “get it” and “tackle another campaign promise: long-term deficit reduction.” Amazing, the president who passed the porkulus, Obamacare and undermined welfare reform, all in the process of spending more in a projected 8 years than the country spent over the previous 232 years will “get it.”

And who says the media is out of touch with reality?

Why we need to fact-check liberals

Time to do something we haven’t done in a little while here on Strictly Right, mock Canadian liberals. Keep in mind that no matter where in the world you are, liberals are idiots (except Australia…but they’re kinda backwards.)

Canadian Liberal Party leader Michael Ignatieff (our American readers may remember him as the one who lived there for 30 years before returning to Canada to be Prime Minister) has put his party affiliation aside to go on a national Canadian book tour to promote his book that attempts to prove he’s patriotic, aptly titled True Patriot Love.

Anyone who’s read this book already (oh, so you’re the one?) would note that it came out a year ago. This tour is promoting the release of the paperback version, which conveniently features quotes from reviews of the hardcover version. However, Ignatieff seems to be slightly misrepresenting the quotes from the reviews.

Take this one from the National Post for example. Ignatieff quoted them as saying:

“Plenty of scope for a rich story…some wonderful anecdotes, particularly about George P. Grant…Well-written.” – National Post

What they actually said:

“True Patriot Love offers little that is new on the Grants save some wonderful anecdotes, particularly about George P. Grant…True Patriot Love is a well-written disappointment.” (National Post, May 9, 2009)

I can understand him wanting to leave out the part of the Globe and Mail review, however, which said his book had:

“evolved instead into a slim and disappointing brochure intended to advertise the author’s apparently incontestable Canadian pedigree.” (Globe and Mail, April 24, 2009)

Of course this is Canada, so the team of 11 fact-checkers sent by the Associated Press to discredit Sarah Palin aren’t to be expected on Ignatieff’s book, but perhaps one or two wouldn’t hurt?

'4/20'

In case you have a job, family or modicum of self-respect, you may not be aware that yesterday, April 20th, was ’4/20′ – a day celebrated by the unemployed, university students and other core Democratic constituencies, wherein marijuana is smoked en-masse. Around the world, April 20th has become a day that celebrates lawlessness, immaturity and downright stupidity. The numbers are staggering; in Boulder alone 12,000 – 15,000 people gathered to smoke drugs in public. Pictures from the Daily Mail show what we have come to:

These people are actually out in public advertising that they are drug users. The next picture is of a child participating in the ‘festivities’

How old could that child possibly be? Where are his parent(s)? Today the traditional Judeo-Christian values that have made Western civilization the greatest civilization in human history are under assault every day from the relentless left.  They want to chase all religion out of the public square, and replace it with their sick moral relativism that is founded upon the notion that “if it feels good, do it.”

Many of today’s problems stem form a leftwing socialist welfare state that destroys the family. The left seeks to replace the traditional wage earner with the government. Through the policies of Franklin Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson and now Barack Obama, the left has been waging a full scale war to dismantle traditional families. With  families destroyed, the left has a free hand to peddle their poison. Whereas children used to learn morality at home and from religious institutions, without strong families, the government is left to be the arbiters of morality.

The primary agency through which leftwing cultural poison is dispensed is college and university campuses. While some parents may think their children are learning important lessons at school, in fact, they are being taught to shun religion, ignore their parents, hate the private sector and trust  benevolent big government and spread the deadly vision of moral relativism. It is no coincidence that  many of the ’4/20′ revelers were university students.

The left has been succeeding in its war against the family. As I have written about before, illegitimate birth rates are up. Single motherhood is praised as though it is some ideal worth striving for, not a sad and difficult reality to be avoided. Religious teachings, prayer and the like are banned at schools. When society condones bad behavior and  denigrates traditions that have been proven to be effective over time we ought to not be surprised when the dregs of society gather to blow smoke in our faces.

Attend a Barack Obama Training Camp!

I shouldn’t be surprised, but I kind of am. When I saw that the Democratic Party was running summer training camps, I was worried that this was going to be another Barney-Frank-meets-Catholic-clergy nightmare; you know, so kids could claim ObamaCare benefits for therapy sessions in a few years. More amusingly, however, it seems that Organizing for America, Obama’s PAC is running indoctrination sessions across America this summer (coming to a rented-out warehouse near you!) Remember those speeches that Hitler and Stalin used to go around Father- and Mother-land doing to tell people all the benefits of their respective governments? Now, I’m not saying that there’s a connection or anything…

From Obama’s website:

As we continue fighting for the President’s agenda and gear up for the elections in the fall, we need to make sure we’re all ready to organize as effectively as possible.

We’re holding Camp OFA training sessions across the country, to make sure that OFA supporters like you have the skills you’ll need to make it happen. You’ll hear from local community organizers, volunteers, and staff on the best ways to organize local events and build neighborhood teams, how to make the case for the President’s agenda for change, and what OFA is planning to do in the months ahead.

Don’t be afraid when you start seeing a bunch of zombies walking around this summer with blank stares on their faces repeating a carefully chosen one-liner. Basically, they’ll be like Ron Paul supporters except they’ll be saying something other than “End the Fed” (has the effect of “Hope and Change” worn off yet?)

Fortunately I was able to come across the schedule for one of these sessions:

8:00 am-9:00 am: Arrival, registration. Organizers will empty everyone’s wallets and redistribute spending money equally
9:00 am-10:00 am: How to bend over to Muslims without falling
10:00 am-11:00 am: Freedom 101 – why it’s outdated and not-relevant
11:00 am-12:00 pm: The Constitution – why everyone should write their own and follow that one
12:00 pm-1:00 pm: Sodium-free, vegan luncheon (individuals will not be permitted to purchase a better meal from a private vendor)
1:00 pm-2:00 pm: What You Didn’t Know about the UK – How to select gifts for PM’s and break royal protocol
2:00 pm-3:00 pm: How to manage Biden
3:00 pm-4:00 pm: Income Tax Tips 101 with special guest from ACORN
4:00 pm-5:00 pm: Racism in America – how to spin any statement by a conservative to indicate racism

Crist to Run as an Independent

Crist Almighty, I can’t say that I’m surprised by this, but I kind of hoped that Governor Charlie Crist (R-FL) could take the high road at least this one time in his life and challenge Marco Rubio in the Republican primary, not in the Florida senate election in 2010.

Despite repeatedly assuring voters that he would not seek the Senate seat as an independent, sources close to Crist say that he’s having a change of heart.

It may be the worst-kept secret in American politics today, and it’s apparently about to become a reality. Reliable sources informed me today that embattled Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, whose early lead in his US Senate Republican primary race against former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio has essentially reversed itself in the polls, is preparing to announce sooner rather than later that he will leave the GOP and continue his run for Senate as an independent. Sources add that the speech Crist will use in his announcement is now being drafted.

As Reagan said, when it comes to people who wont subscribe to true conservative principles, “let them go their way.” However, I must admit that I’m a bit concerned about how this will affect Rubio (the conservative one) in the general election. If it was a standard race with a Republican versus a Democrat, Rubio would take it hands-down. However, the presence of a “moderate conservative” (gag) could off-set things a bit.

However, at least Florida doesn’t have to worry about having a boring political ‘scene.’

The next episode of 'Hypocrisy in the White House'

Another amusing story from the Telegraph.

Do you remember that lazy-ass president who used to play golf all the time? I think his name was George W. Bush. Well, it turned out that President Bush played golf a whopping 24 times while in office. For those who aren’t the best at math, that means that the great liberator played golf three times per year on average. Seriously, what kind of slacker devotes 12 hours a year to a relaxing game?

This is completely different, however, from Barack Obama’s latest antics. Obama has been in office for 15 months now, and has hit the golf course 32 times. With only a little over year in the White House, the President has whacked around more balls than Barney Frank and filled more holes than John Edwards. Do I care? No not at all. I don’t care if the President wants to play golf, squash, or even run over chickens. What I don’t have time for is the hypocrisy of the first chain-smoking, coke-sniffing, alcoholic, ‘post-racial,’ one-term, African American President, once again setting a different set of standard for himself than he does for the rest of the world.

Congratulations Mr. President on taking a page right out of the leftist manifesto!

Let's learn from this Indonesian school

A friend of mine just got back from Indonesia where he was able to get pictures from the walls of the school of young Barry Soetoro (Barack Hussein Obama.) Unsurprisingly, there were dozens of pictures and poems idolizing the great peacemaker who once roamed their halls (and cited the Qu’ran in the process.) Oddly enough, this was one of the ones he sent me. I wish the government could abide by all but the fourth (especially the fifth.)
