Of course I’m sure you all have seen the news about Francois A-Houle, the Vice-Provost of the University of Ottawa who has threatened criminal charges against Ann Coulter for a speech she hasn’t even given yet! Interestingly enough, his bio describes himself as being an expert in “modern political thought.” I’m not a huge fan of this new age censorship…just sayin’. In keeping in line with the principles of grassroots activism, here is Mr. Houle’s contact information (and photograph) for your enjoyment:
Telephone : 613-562-5800 ext. 5737
Fax : 613-562-5106
E-Mail Address: francois.houle@uottawa.ca
P.S. Listen to Ann Coulter’s exclusive interview with Ari Fine and Myself on Strictly Right Radio

Ugh, what a jackass (him not you)
I also found this email for Houlio:
fhoule@uOttawa.ca
While it’s no surprise that this is receiving attention south of the border, the who part isn’t as obvious.
Woah!!! How could she possibly interpret THAT as a threat?! He literally said a simple fact: “someone who proposes this kind of dialog can get this kind of consequence”. Since when is reading off the law a hate crime???
The dude was simply doing what his students asked him to do and letting her know what the law is here. I would have much prefered a letter that bans her from campus, but hey, I cant control that.
Besides… He looks like my innocent, genuinely caring Uncle Pierre.
Hey now that i think about it, why does Coulter freak out about ONE sentence in ONE letter? She must have gotten hundreds of death threats in the last few years. Why get pissed off about this super-reasonable letter?
Cause it’ll get her attention? Tsssk… Victimize yourself after having spewed hate speech all over, about individuals and groupsn over years and years… What two-faced wacko…
Kame out.
P.S. She got SHUUUT downnn here at the U of O! Tonight. Like. A few hours ago. Take that, ignorant banana righty… Solidarity forever!
I saw the headline in the Globe and Mail today. It said, “Coulter cries mistreatment in Canada.” Now knowing a little about her I would say that she never uttered such words. Also was “Right-wing commentator says university’s sharp-tongued warning prior to her speech was inappropriate.” Inappropriate is another word I can’t see her using.
Oh well. I look forward to catching the videos.
His name sounds like a French communist thug

Kame
Or is that Kamel?
Is that the way to solve problems? Just have the speaker banned from expressing her opinion?
What ever happened to open dialogue?
It’s leftists like yourself that are creating the problems in our society.
I personally would like Muslims banned from entering Canada.
Hello, I would like to say that I am basically a Democrat, although I have some libertarian views, but I’m not a Republican and I’m not right wing. However, I would fight vociferously in defense of Ann Coulter’s right to have spoken here in Ottawa, where I have lived for the last 20 years (although I’m American).
For a university, of all places, to have discouraged her from speaking is reprehensible. What are the students learning there? Is there no diversity of opinion? If Coulter was being threatened, legal action should have been taken against those who threatened her! What about more police protection? What about instant jail sentences for anyone who harmed her physically or so much as intimated that they would?
I’ve read two of her books and I think Coulter is very smart and funny, but I don’t share many of her views. Nonetheless, free speech is all about allowing and encouraging those with whom we disagree to talk. It’s easy to nod in approval when someone is saying exactly what we think or we like. That’s not what free speech is about. It means that when we don’t like what someone says, we let them say it anyway and we extend protection to them to make ourselves a free and democratic society.
Shame on University of Ottawa! What the hell were they thinking?
Sigrid Macdonald in Ottawa
Well-said Sigrid — and thank you for posting. It’s unfortunate that many on the left are forced to deal with peers who support censorship. I don’t believe Ann Coulter should be prevented from speaking, just as I don’t believe that Michael Moore or Al Gore should be stopped from addressing. It’s all about equality.
The question remains. How many other potential speakers were warned about our lack of free speech by the provost of U of O?
